Description
Our Mission: Our mission is to preserve and conserve the natural environmental resources, rainforests
and their biodiversity ecosystems, indigenous communities and culture in knuckles Mountain
Range through community education and awareness
Our Vision: Socio-Environment Foundation’s vision is of a clean and healthy environment with community
groups who are fully aware, responsible and caring about their surrounding environment, its
natural resources and biodiversity.
Our Objectives: Conserve and protect the biodiversity and natural resources and culture in Knuckles
Mountain range.
-Environmental education/awareness programs, projects, seminars and training for community groups. Assist
in the development and implementation of Sri Lanka’s school curriculum in environment
education in order to promote the idea of environmental conservation/protection and awareness.
-Alternative income sources and improved livelihood for the indigenous community in Knuckles Range and
other rural areas and projects to address the problems in the areas of forest biodiversity.
-Water shed management in Knuckles Mountain Range as it is one of the main contributors to the country’s
water resource.
-Sustainable development
-Assist the government officers and political authorities in implementing the policies and procedures
on environmental issues.
-Promote the usage of environmental friendly products
-Implement a project on Eco-tour Chain and the main purposes of these projects are to facilitate the
environmentalists and those who are interested on these subjects to enhance their knowledge, on
the different environmental issues, studies and research and local as well as foreign tourists for relaxation
purposes.
